Unboxing the Holy Spirit

Amber Beels:

Welcome to the Holy Spirit Untethered. My name's Amber Beals, and it is my job and my mission to allow the Holy Spirit to speak through me, to help demystify who He is, what his role is, and to deeply encourage you to seek a relationship with him. Alright. Let's get started. Hey, guys.

Amber Beels:

Welcome to the Holy Spirit Untethered podcast. My name is Amber, and I am so excited to be sharing something with you today that was kind of a revelation to me today. I'm recording this podcast on Monday, February 10. So you won't get this until Thursday, but it just was a really big revelation to me. And I felt like the Holy Spirit wanted me to share it with you.

Amber Beels:

But before I do get started with that topic, I hope you guys are doing well. I, you know, this is episode 33 of the Holy Spirit Untethered podcast, and it's been a journey. It's been great. Like at first I was doing this just out of obedience because the Holy Spirit wanted me to do this. And I was like, okay, like I help people launch podcasts all the time, but I didn't have one of my own.

Amber Beels:

And the Holy Spirit was like, okay, I need you to do this. And I'm like, okay, well, that's uncomfortable. And to be honest, I should be able to do it. I help people do it all the time, but it's always different when you are on on the other side of the microphone, on the other side of the camera, whatever it is, like it's always a little different. And I'm really glad I'm doing this.

Amber Beels:

I've come to really enjoy it. And I hope that you guys are too. I hope you're getting a lot of value out of it. But before I dive into my revelation from the Holy Spirit, let's go ahead and pray. So if you can and it's safe to do so, go ahead and close your eyes and pray with me.

Amber Beels:

All right. Dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you so much for today. I thank you that we are able to just enjoy your presence every day. Lord, I thank you for your faithfulness. I thank you that you always love us no matter what is going on and that you are always searching for us.

Amber Beels:

You are always just chasing after us, no matter what we've done, no matter what our past is, no matter what our mindset is at the time, you are constantly chasing us. And I'm just so grateful for that. So I just thank you for that. I just pray for this specific episode, this podcast. Holy Spirit, I pray that you speak through me today.

Amber Beels:

I pray that you would prepare my heart and everybody else's heart that is listening to this podcast, whether it's right when it comes out or years down the line. Lord, I just pray that this podcast episode would find the people that it needs to find and that people who need to hear it will hear it, Lord, and that it'll do what you intend it to do. And we pray these things in Jesus name. Amen. All right.

Amber Beels:

So, my revelation. And it's so funny because when you think of like, Oh, the Lord revealed this to me. You always think it's going to be some like crazy, amazing vision or something super, super, like just mind blowing. But I don't know about you, but a lot of the times for me, whenever the Lord reveals something to me, it's so simple. It's so small, not small.

Amber Beels:

It's just simple, but yet so just eye opening and so impactful. And I think the Lord works in that way all the time. Like the Lord is always so simple. He's not complicated. Like when he communicates to us, I'm not saying he's not complex.

Amber Beels:

He's God, obviously. He is the God of the universe. He is amazing and has created all things and is not not complex, but he is so simple when he communicates to us because he's communicating to us on our level. And let's be honest, we are simple beings. At least for me, I need someone.

Amber Beels:

If you're going to tell me something like I have you have to spell it out for me because sometimes it can be a little hard for things to get through my thick brain, but that's, that's okay. So today when I was in scripture, again, I'm still in Jeremiah. I know. It's a big book. Okay.

Amber Beels:

Give me some grace. It's a lot of chapters. I'm towards the end now. I probably have another couple of weeks and then I'll be done. But I'm in Jeremiah and I was reading and doing like my devotional.

Amber Beels:

There's a gratitude journal that I was given by Sheila, Sheila Grant,

Amber Beels:

shout out to her.

Amber Beels:

I know she listens to this podcast. Love her. She's amazing. But I've been, I've been doing my thing, Sheila. You'll be proud of me.

Amber Beels:

I've been filling out my gratitude journal. So I was filling out my journal, doing my like daily routine of spending time with the Lord. And I, a lot of the times I feel like we can get caught in the motions of like, okay, this is my routine. Okay. I gotta read scripture.

Amber Beels:

Okay. I'm gonna do the devotional. I'm gonna do the gratitude thing. And we're just checking off boxes. Right?

Amber Beels:

And I'm not gonna lie. I look forward to that time. Not just because it's checking off a box, but I do, I do genuinely like love reading scripture and spending time with the Lord. I couldn't always say that. That wasn't always the case, but it, it is now.

Amber Beels:

And I praise the Lord for that. But today as I did that, and I started my prayer time with the Lord, I just felt the need to just be quiet. I feel a lot of the times when we're praying, it's, it feels one-sided. We're just, you know, saying our prayers to the Lord, giving him our requests, giving him our, you know, our prayers and praying for other people and ourselves and giving gratitude and all the things. But today, I don't know.

Amber Beels:

I just felt like I just needed to be quiet and let him talk. And and not that I don't give him that space to do that, but normally that space is not in the morning when I do my daily stuff in the morning, like my daily routine. Normally, it's when I'm seeking him in, like, my secret place, like when I'm praying in the spirit and then I'm, then I'm quiet and I'm listening for his response. And then it dawned on me, you know, I okay. Side note, just to give you some context.

Amber Beels:

My church has started life groups again and life groups are amazing. They are a part of our church. We have several different groups and because I'm not leading a group anymore, I have the freedom to be able to move around into the different groups and just to really get to know different members of the church that maybe I wouldn't normally spend time with. And so it's a really big blessing for me to be able to do that. And this season I decided to join Adam and Krystal's group.

Amber Beels:

And Adam, he has been on this podcast before. I forgot what episode he was on, but I'll put it in the show notes if you want to listen to his episode, it was great. And I decided to join his group. Now his group is huge. Like there's a lot of people in that group and it's, it's really amazing to see all these groups of like different walks of life.

Amber Beels:

People, right? People who are, you know, young, older, different walks of life. Right? So it's really cool to see all of them come together. And in this season of LifeGroup, we are going through the Bible, which is great.

Amber Beels:

So normally in LifeGroup, we go through a book that is a Christian book by a Christian author and typically a pastor, but we don't typically go through scripture. Now, when I first started attending Heart Church and the Life Group was one Life Group, just one, because our church was a lot smaller back then. We did go through scripture and it was amazing. I really loved that time of diving into the Lord's word. And when our pastor was, you know, trying to get the feelers out from all the leaders in the church saying like, Hey, I was thinking of maybe doing this book, but you know, I think the Lord maybe put it on my heart to go back to scripture.

Amber Beels:

And everybody responded to that text and was like, yes, let's do scripture. Let's totally do scripture. So we are right now going through the book of James. And then I believe after that, we're going to go through Ephesians. But right now we're in James.

Amber Beels:

And what's different about this life group from the other life groups is that they choose two people from the group that we all specifically pray for. And they have like specific requests and then they'll sit in the middle of a group, like that's our goal. And then we all pray for them and not only prayer, but we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us and give a word for that person or scripture or, you know, whatever it is. Like we just, they, they allow time for that. And I thought that was really, really cool because like in my class that I, that I host, it's the Holy Spirit, an introduction by John Brevere.

Amber Beels:

It's a video series. I invite about 10 people from my church. They come to my house. We watch the series together. It's amazing.

Amber Beels:

The last day we do something similar where we have prayer time, but that is more like, I'm just making sure that you are baptized in the Holy Spirit or praying over you. And then I allow the Holy Spirit to speak to other people in the group to pray over this person. And if they have a word for them, they can speak over them. But typically it's just prayer and we're going one by one and it takes like a couple hours because we pray for every single person in the group, including myself. Like I get prayed over too.

Amber Beels:

But for this life group, they pick two people and they tell us in the beginning of the week what their prayer requests are so that we can pray during the week and then pray about it and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you about this person. And then when Wednesday comes, which is when LifeGroup is, you can speak to that person. And it was really interesting. And one thing, my revelation, I know I'm giving a lot of backstory to get to my revelation, but my revelation was that I didn't think that I really had those gifts. And I know that's really silly to say, especially now that I'm saying it out loud, but like I deep down thought that my gift was the gift of teaching and equipping the saints.

Amber Beels:

That was the word that was given to me, equip my saint. And so I thought that my job, and this is me putting myself in a box. This isn't the Lord putting me in a box. This is, this is me putting myself in a little box saying, okay, the Lord wants me to equip His Saints. Okay.

Amber Beels:

I'm gonna teach them about the Holy Spirit. I'm gonna like, make sure that they're aware of his living spirit, what his role is, how we are supposed to work with the Holy Spirit, encounter him, all the things, make sure that they're baptized in the Holy Spirit so that they can go out and use their spiritual gifts, like this, the, the gift of healing, the gift of word of knowledge, visions, prophecy, all the things. Like I felt like my job was to equip the saints so that they could do their jobs of all the spiritual gifts. And so when I experienced this First Life group of seeing and witnessing all the other people in the group, speaking to these people, I was like, man, I wish, I wish I could do that. I was like, that would be awesome if the Holy Spirit kind of like gave me a word for somebody or, you know, a picture.

Amber Beels:

And not to say that the Holy Spirit hasn't done that. Like he's done that in other settings where he's giving me like a picture of something. Like during an upper room, I got a picture about of, of something that was for the church. And one time during the Holy Spirit class, I remember again, it was a picture for a specific person, but I don't know. I just felt like that was rare and not really for me.

Amber Beels:

And I realized, well, I did I didn't realize the Holy Spirit told me. He was like, you're putting yourself in a box and you're putting me in a box. And I was like, Lord, I

Amber Beels:

don't wanna put you in

Amber Beels:

a box. That's the last thing I want you to do. And he was like, Amber, I've given you a word to equip my saints, but that doesn't mean that you can't experience all the gifts that I'm giving all my saints. You are a saint. Like you can experience these things.

Amber Beels:

You're just not letting me use you in those areas because you've confined yourself as teacher and that's it. And you have done things and said things out loud that have made it impossible for me to use you in those areas or bestow these gifts on you so that you can bless other people. So I was confining the Holy Spirit because I was given a word by Him and I made myself stay within that word. And that to me was like mind blowing. And when he said that you've said things that I, me Amber, have said things that has confined him to not be able to use me in certain areas, I felt so remorse.

Amber Beels:

Like I started crying because I was like, Lord, I'm, I'm sorry. Like that is not, that was not my intention when I said those things. And again, he just repeated to me, there's power in your spoken word. There's so much power in what you say, and you limit things that I can do based on what you say. And like that just it made me so humble because there's so much power in our word and what we say that it limits the blessings and the actions of what God can do in your life.

Amber Beels:

We control what he can do in our life based on what we say. And that is scary. That's very scary, at least in certain areas of your life. And he had, he had told me that the words I had said immediately when he said that I was like, okay, Lord, what have I said? Reveal to me what I have said so that I can repent of that.

Amber Beels:

And then he reminded me of some of the times that I was like, yeah, I don't think the gift of prophecy is for me. Like, I don't really want the gift of prophecy because I'm afraid I'm gonna get it wrong. Like that just sounds like too much pressure. And just saying those words, even if it was in passing, limited my God. It limited his ability to be able to use those gifts in my life because I verbally told him I don't want it.

Amber Beels:

And that just, it, again, it humbled me because I was like, Lord, like that is not my intention. Maybe it was at the time, maybe because I was scared of those gifts, but Lord, I want you to be able to use me in every possible way. I want to be a vessel for you to further your kingdom in whatever way that looks like. And I don't wanna be the one that limits you in what gifts you give me. And it's just man.

Amber Beels:

I mean, how many how many of us do that? How many of us verbally say something in passing and because of those words puts the Lord or the Holy Spirit in a box so that he can only use us in certain areas. And you're limiting yourself. Like I've always said I wanted the gift of faith, like extreme faith. Like I've always wanted that gift.

Amber Beels:

And I never really wanted the gift of discernment, which I have been given several times. I never really wanted the gift of prophecy. And there there's a lot of different gifts. And there's another episode that I did with Estella. It was really good, and we talk about spiritual gifts, but I shouldn't realize that I was limiting what I could do because of what I said.

Amber Beels:

And I just want to encourage everyone listening to this podcast to repent of your words and just be so careful about what you say, because you could be limiting yourself. And the Lord told me, he's like, if you wanna be able to speak life or speak a prophecy or speak a word of knowledge or give a picture, you are more than capable of doing that. You just gotta let me. You have to let me use you. You don't think that you have those gifts because you put yourself in that box of teacher.

Amber Beels:

And I was just like, okay, Lord, I am so sorry. And I had to repent of that and just, you know, apologize. And the Lord is so good. Like he's not going to keep us in that place of shame, that place of guilt, that place of just, I can't believe I did that. And how am I ever going to recover from this?

Amber Beels:

Like he, he is so good that he's not gonna do that. But it is his job as the Holy Spirit to reveal things to us and make sure that we are convicted of certain things. And just be aware of what we're saying and what we're doing and how we're limiting ourselves because the Lord wants to use us to our full extent, but he can only use us to the amount that we allow him to. So my question to you is, what areas in your life have you put him out and not allowed him to touch or areas of your life that you always thought, no. That's not for me.

Amber Beels:

No. I can't do that. No. That's their gift. The Lord hasn't really given us super individual gifts.

Amber Beels:

I believe we have access to all the gifts. It just depends on what the circumstances, like, when are we, when do we need that gift? Now there may be one or two gifts that maybe you are really good at. Maybe those are the gifts that the Lord has given you over and over and over again, but I wouldn't say that, like, that's my gift and that's it. Like, don't just claim that as your gift.

Amber Beels:

I believe that the Lord wants to use you in all the gifts. So don't limit him by saying no, that's my gift. Like, don't limit the God of the universe and how he's gonna use you. Let him decide that. What he wants is for you to be in a posture of, Lord, I submit to you.

Amber Beels:

I love you. And I want you to be able to use me in all areas of my life. I want you to be able to call on me when somebody needs healing. I want you to call on me when somebody needs deliverance. I want you to call on me when somebody needs a word or a prophecy or something.

Amber Beels:

And I don't want to hesitate because I don't think I have that gift. Because Lord, you are sovereign. You are the giver of all gifts. So who am I to think that you're not going to give me the gift at the time that I need it? Who am I to think that?

Amber Beels:

That I'm not good enough because I'm weak and you are made strong in my weakness. Like the weaker I am, the better so that you can work. So it's not up to me and my thinking of, Oh, I'm not worthy enough to do this. Oh, I don't know the Bible enough to do this. It's all about your heart.

Amber Beels:

And I know I've said that so many times, but again, it's, it's so relevant. It's all about your heart. Where is your heart posture? Are you willing to do the scary things? Are you willing to go up to somebody if the Lord says like, Hey, I want you to pray for this person and you don't know this person from Adam?

Amber Beels:

Like, you just have to get up and talk to them. Like, are you willing to do that? Are you willing to suffer through the awkwardness, through the scariness? Is your fear of God greater than your fear of man? Is your fear of God greater than your fear of man?

Amber Beels:

Because it should be. And I'm preaching to myself just as much as I'm talking to you. And, like, I have to remind myself that the fear of the Lord should be way greater than whatever I am afraid of somebody else thinking of me. I shouldn't be afraid of what others think of me. What I should be afraid of is what God thinks of me.

Amber Beels:

Now I know God loves me and I know that I'm his child and I know that he'll never look at me differently, but he is also the God of the universe. He is the God almighty that created everything. I'm reading this book right now. It's like the healthy, emotional, emotionally healthy leader, something like that. And it's, he brought up this point about play and how creation is God's play.

Amber Beels:

Like God creates because it's fun. And I was like, that's crazy. Like he creates animals and things on the planet and all the things that we see because it just brings him enjoyment. Like he just loves to do it. And that is just, that's an amazing God to serve.

Amber Beels:

He just does things because he loves to do it. And we should fear him over any thoughts somebody may have over us, especially somebody we don't know. Our goal should be that when we get to heaven and we face God and we go to the throne room, that for him to say, great job, good and faithful servant. You did what I asked you to do. That should be the ultimate goal because this life is so short.

Amber Beels:

I mean, if you think of eternity, eternity is forever. I can't even comprehend eternity. Every time that I try to, I'm just like, nah, I can't. When you think of like five hundred years and think of five hundred years more, like, I can't keep thinking that far ahead because like, I don't know, my brain just doesn't compute that way, but that's eternity. It's just forever and ever and ever.

Amber Beels:

So our time here on Earth, you know, if you're lucky, you live to like, you know, a hundred. I mean, I don't think most people live to a hundred, but if you do, like a hundred years compared to eternity, it's so short. It's such a small amount of time in comparison to what you are gonna experience. So what we do here on this Earth impacts eternity. So everything that you do, everything that you say, everything that you accomplish in this life affects the rest of your life, which is forever and ever, which is crazy to think about.

Amber Beels:

So make sure what you do on this earth, make sure that you do what you do in this assignment that the Lord has given you is good. It just makes this life so much more important. It makes the impact of your life so important. So what are you gonna do with it? We only get one.

Amber Beels:

So what, what are you gonna choose to do? You're gonna choose to limit yourself, to put yourself and the Holy Spirit in a box? Or are you gonna open that box, step out of it and say, Lord, here I am. Use me. Use me in any way that you see fit and Lord grant me the courage to be able to do it.

Amber Beels:

Because even though we should fear God over man or whatever, it's still, it's still hard. It's still scary. Like we still have emotions. We still have all these things that are important. Emotions are important, but they shouldn't run our lives.

Amber Beels:

God's will and God's word should run our lives. It shouldn't be about your heart. You know, people say, follow your heart. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's really about God's word.

Amber Beels:

It's about being submitted to the Lord and what he has for you. It's about listening and being quiet and listening to the Lord. When he says, do something, do it. And don't limit him. Gosh, don't limit him.

Amber Beels:

I felt so terrible when he told me that, that I was limiting him. Me. I was limiting the Lord of the Universe and how he could use me because of what I said. And it was so small. It was just one sentence, but yet it limited him and how he could use me to grow his kingdom, to influence his saints, to bring people to Christ.

Amber Beels:

It limited my gifting. And so now, because I made this revelation, hopefully this Wednesday, I can say something over the people that are getting prayed on this week. I've been praying about it and I'm like, Holy Spirit, use me. Use me, Lord. Use me to be able to not only equip your saints, but give them something of value.

Amber Beels:

Give them a word directly from you. Give them a vision, give them a prophecy, give them something that I can say you gave me because I was open to it. Because I allowed myself to be a vessel and I yielded my lips and my vocal cords to you. And that's my heart. And I really hope that that's your heart too, because the Lord wants to use you.

Amber Beels:

And like I've said before, it's all about your heart posture and how you view the Lord and how you present yourself to the Lord, because he wants to use you. He wants to use all of us because he loves us. He wants to give us these gifts to not just have a gift, but to be able to further his kingdom and witness to people who don't know him already and to be the salt and light of the earth. So, yeah, that was, that was my revelation. And I hope that this helps you guys.

Amber Beels:

I hope that this also is revealing to you. I mean, I hope that most of you aren't putting God in a box, but, you know, if you are, I hope that this helps. I hope this helps reveal that to you and and allow you to just change that perspective of like, no, that's not my gift. No, that's not for me. No, I don't know.

Amber Beels:

And I'm not good enough for that. I don't know the Bible enough. I don't know this enough. No. If you know Christ, if you're saved, if you've made Jesus your savior, you've declared that in your heart, and you've spoken it out with your mouth, and you've been baptized in the Holy Spirit by asking him for his help and his empowerment, you can do these things.

Amber Beels:

Like, that is that is the minimum requirement to be able to do those things. And it's awesome. It's awesome to be open to that and allowing the holy spirit to work through you and allowing the holy spirit to just use you in those different facets. I believe you're going to see the Lord in a different light because of it. If you allow the Lord to use you in these different ways, you're going to get to know him on a different level because you've been open and vulnerable to him in those areas in your life that you were unsure of because you trusted him and you opened up to him.

Amber Beels:

And I believe it's gonna be beautiful. So I'm really excited for this next season of my life because I don't wanna limit him. And I'm very, very, very careful about what I say now. And I'm trying, you know, I'm learning. You know, as much as I know now, I'm still learning.

Amber Beels:

And I think we all will continue to learn and I think we all will continue to learn until we're in heaven. We're I think what this life is, is it's school. We're learning and, and building that relationship with the Holy Spirit and just practicing for eternity. Because what we do here impacts eternity, which is crazy, but awesome. So anyway, guys, I hope that this message just brings you some kind of revelation yourself.

Amber Beels:

I hope that it blesses you. And if you did learn something from this episode, share it with somebody. Share it with somebody. I am trying to grow this podcast, and we're in over 10 countries. I think it's over 15 countries, which is awesome.

Amber Beels:

But I'm very humbled to to hear that and truly honored that, people have heard my voice around the world, which is pretty cool. I hope you guys get something out of this. Please share this episode. Please leave a rating. Please write a review.

Amber Beels:

That's the word. Write a review. I don't think you can do that on Spotify, but you can do it on Apple. So if you can help me out and write a review on Apple, that would really help the promotion of this podcast and just get it into the the ears of all the people that need to hear it. Alright, guys.

Amber Beels:

I hope you have a great week, and I'll see you next week.
